Budget Writers Hit Impasse

Legislative budget writers continue to look for a solution to the state’s estimated half a billion dollar shortfall.
New Hampshire Public Radio’s Dan Gorenstein has more.
Lawmakers reached a handful of agreements Wednesday, including a move to restore funding to the state’s preservation program and money for the Commissions on the Status of Women and Men.
They also agreed to hike the cigarette tax and boat registration fees.
What they didn’t do was come to a meeting of the minds on how to fund state services over the next two years.
The House shot down the Senate’s proposal to add video slots.
The Senate dismissed the House’s plan to install a capital gains tax.
The committee hopes to wrap up work by midnight tonight.
The top House budget writer says expect deeper cuts as part of a balanced budget package that both sides can agree on.

Why don't we hold a special vote and let the people of NH decide whether gaming is the way to go. I have not been contacted to see what my views are on this subject. I know I don't want anymore property taxes. If this would help I am for it. I know we elect representatives to voice our opinions, but if for some reason they personally do not want something, my opinion does not count. Let's work together and get something done. Not Republicans against Democrates. Think of the people who voted for you, and are they going to stand behind you the next time we vote.
