Bad Weather Could Slow Ice Storm Repairs
By Dan Gorenstein on Tuesday, December 16, 2008.
State officials are reporting 105,000 customers are without power. In the past 24 hours work crews have restored approximately 65,000 homes and businesses in New Hampshire. Over 550 crews continue to pick up debris and repair power lines as quickly as possible. But Emergency Management spokesperson Jim Van Dongen says the weather could slow efforts. "We're going to get some rain or snow, and that just makes things more complicated. Rain is difficult - we're working with high-voltage equipment, so that makes it a little more dangerous and slippery and that sort of thing, so it could slow things down." On Sunday a 60 year old man from Epping died after his oxygen tanks failed. Van Dongen says anyone without power that needs oxygen should call 9-1-1. |
