Downed Trees Add to Power Outages on Seacoast
By Roger Wood on Friday, December 12, 2008.
The ice storm that hit overnight seems to have focused across the southern part of the state. NHPR Correspondent Roger Wood reports on the damage on the Seacoast. Thousands of Seacoast residents have now been without electricity for over 24 hours, while utility crews slowly survey the damaged power lines from breaking and drooping tree limbs. Businesses and banks in downtown Portsmouth are closed for the day, as merchants join residents wondering when things will get back to normal. With ice-laden trees still threatening to break down, Dover police chief Anthony Collarusso is urging people to stay home if possible. He's advising those without power to seek out friends or relatives to stay with that do have electricity. One tree service owner said he's just taking calls right now, with plans to cut up downed limbs at least through the weekend. For NHPR News, I'm Roger Wood in Portsmouth. Post a comment
