Vitamin D Deficiency

The centers for Disease Control say about 70% of Americans don’t get enough Vitamin D. It’s called “the sunshine vitamin” because without the sun’s rays, our skin can’t make it. And the darker your skin, the more sun you need. That’s why African Americans are twice as likely to have insufficient amounts of Vitamin D than whites – making them more likely to get certain diseases. Ashley Ahearn produced this report for public radio’s Living on Earth.
