By Debra Daigle on Monday, August 21, 2006.

Two Great Operas

By Liz Bulkley on Monday, August 21, 2006.

We look at two different operas today, a very funny work by British composer Benjamin Britten and some more traditional work by one of opera's favorite sons, Giuseppe Verdi. Opera North is in the midst of a production of Benjamin Britten's opera called Albert Herring, and in tandem with that, a production of Giuseppe Verdi's "Il Trovatore." We'll talk about the beautiful but demanding works being staged at the Lebanon Opera House with Opera North's Director of Productions Ron Lukinger and Artistic Director Louis Burkot.

Prescription Drug Abuse

By Laura Knoy on Monday, August 21, 2006.

Vicodin, Percocet, Oxycontin... they're easier to get than drugs like cocaine and heroin. All you need is a doctor's prescription or a good credit card online. Now addiction rates and overdoses from these perfectly legal drugs are on the rise. We'll look at who's using, the extent of the abuse and what's being done about it in the Granite State. Laura's guests are Dr. Thomas Andrew, State Medical Examiner and Jacqui Abikoff, director of the Horizons Counseling Center in Gilford and Plymouth. We'll also hear from Seddon Savage, a local doctor who sits on the Prescription Monitoring Program Task Force and Jim Pilliod, a pediatrician and State Representative from Belmont who has sponsored a bill to improve oversight and communication on prescription drug use in the state.
