Businessman Aims to Put Firearms Facility Up in Groton

A Rye businessman wants to build a firearms training facility in Groton, just west of Plymouth.

Groton doesn't have any zoning.

That makes it nearly impossible for the town to block the project...if it wants to.

No zoning means no public hearing.

No public hearing means rumors are flying around about just what a firearms training facility is.

At the same time, some residents have organized opposition...and hired a lawyer.

New Hampshire Public Radio's Dan Gorenstein has the story.

Some Teachers Spend Thousands On Their Classroom

The Concord teachers union and the school board still haven’t reached a contract agreement.
In the meantime, as a protest against the school board, many teachers have removed items from their classrooms that they’ve purchased with their own money.
As New Hampshire Public Radio’s Amy Quinton reports, over the years some teachers have spent thousands of their own dollars filling a classroom with supplies the schools can’t afford.

Winter Sports Photographer Dorothy Crossley

Imagine being a photographer who's main assignment is to cover the world of skiing, even though you're not so great at getting around on skis yourself. That was Dorothy Crossley's situation when she first got her start as a photojournalist lugging heavy camera equipment up and down the slopes of New Hampshire -- and this was during the time when women were a rare breed in the realm of sports photography. We'll talk with Dorothy about those days and some of the more glamorous sides of her work. Her book is called Take My Picture!

We'll also hear about a special father-son book project. Photographer Thomas Roma was looking for a way for his eight-year-old son Giancarlo to get to know him better, in case he died unexpectedly. He decided to ask Giancarlo to write a book of essays to accompany his photographs. Turns out, Giancarlo saw meanings in the pictures that his dad had never thought of.
