Concord Teachers and School Board Unable to Reach Agreement

Concord teachers still have no contract. The teachers' union and the Concord School Board met for the 14th mediation session on Thursday without reaching an agreement. This week teachers began moving personal items out of the classroom and there are talks of taking a strike vote. New Hampshire Public Radio's Amy Quinton reports.

Senate Votes To Add Seven Troopers

Oral Histories

Tonight on The Front Porch, we're looking at two very different oral history projects. The first one started 20 years ago, when a woman named Judith Moyer decided to document the contributions of women in her town of Warner. With the help of the New Hampshire Humanities Council, she then took the transcripts of those interviews and built a stage production that's still going strong. It's called "It Had To Be Done, So I Did It", and it's celebrating its 20th anniversary this weekend in Concord. Click here for details on the performance.

The other project we're talking about is a more modern endeavor by the Krempels Brain Injury Foundation. Members of the organization are recording the stories of people who've suffered from brain injury, and they're posting the audio interviews to the internet. We'll hear some of the stories of these folks in their own words, and Program Director Marquis Walsh will join us to talk about the project.

Meth Finds Home in New Hampshire

Law enforcement in New Hampshire has uncovered 15 methamphetamine labs over the last year and half… the highest number of busts by far of any new England state. Officials caution that the spike is nothing to panic about yet, but they’re moving quickly to prevent a crisis that has left many communities throughout the nation devastated. We’ll look at what’s proposed to thwart meth making and ask why the drug is so dangerous when it takes root.

Laura's guests are Jacqui Abikoff, Executive Director of the Horizons Counseling Center, Special Agent Leo Ducey of the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration, and Jane Young, Senior Assistant District Attorney in New Hampshire.
