By Shay Zeller on Wednesday, August 3, 2005.

Seacoast Online calls David Surette's playing "faultless, poignant, and sharp." That kind of praise has become common for the guitarist and mandolin player from South Berwick, Maine. He's well known in New England Celtic circles, and he's just released a new album called "Northern Roots". We'll talk with David about that and how he keeps traditional music sounding fresh.

The Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints

By Laura Knoy on Wednesday, August 3, 2005.

175 years ago, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the Mormon Church, was founded. It's one of the nation's fastest growing religions and the prophet Joseph Smith had New England roots, born in Vermont and Smith's parents in Gilsum, New Hampshire. Today on the Exchange we'll learn more about the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-day Saints... its history, its beliefs and where you see its influence in New England today. Laura's guests are Jan Shipps, Professor of History and Religious Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis and author of "Mormonism: The Story of a New Religious Tradition"; Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, professor of Early American History at Harvard University and President Douglas Rees of the Manchester Mission in Manchester, New Hampshire.
